Heidi Caruso ran the Maine Coast Half Marathon in Wells, Maine on Saturday, May 3, 2025!
Heidi lives in New Hampshire and was excited for a weekend getaway to the coast. She ran the race with her two sisters and absolutely loved it. She reported that the course was absolutely gorgeous with ocean views. A lot of spectators lined the course, adding a lot of positive energy to the race. Add in the fact that the weather totally cooperated and was beautiful, and everything combined to be a really lovely day.
Heidi’s training for this half marathon didn’t go quite as she expected it would, which is the case for so many of us. Life happens and things unfold in ways we cannot anticipate when we initially sign up for races. Taking this into account, Heidi went into the race with a solid race strategy (which included executing planned run/walk intervals) and reasonable expectations for her performance. These expectations accounted for how her training had actually gone, not how she wished she went. This is an important thing to note because all too often athletes plan for a race strategy that is based on their idealized training scenario and race outcome, rather than being honest about where they actually are and how things actually went.
Heidi was willing to modify her race strategy as-needed, and her pragmatic approach to the race enabled her to have a strong day that she was really happy with. Well done, Heidi!
Jennifer Pearce ran the 4-mile edition of the Greenland Trail Race on Saturday, May 3, 2025 in Larkspur, Colorado!
Jennifer loves running trails, so she was looking forward to this race. She also traveled to and ran it with her good friend Carole, which added an extra fun element to the day for her. Much like Heidi, Jennifer had a busy season of life leading into this race. Her plan for this 4-miler was to execute a strong race that was reflective of the effort and training she had put in.
I’m so pleased to report that Jennifer was able to do just that! She had a great day, pushed herself, and got to enjoy running trails under a cloudless sky. Way to go, Jennifer!
