Paul Elm and Sarah Gerk were the only two Full Circle Endurance athletes racing this past weekend, but they both happened to be racing at the same race: the Cazenovia Triathlon in Cazenovia, New York on Sunday, August 21, 2022!
Paul was excited to return to Cazenovia; this was his very first-ever triathlon last year. Since then, he’s raced three other triathlons, including an IRONMAN 70.3 and the Toyota USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship! He would be toeing the start line in Cazenovia with much more experience this year, and we were pumped to see what he would be able to do in the sprint distance race.
Sarah has been having fun with her racing this summer and was excited to race in the Olympic Distance Aquabike race. This was also her second time coming to Cazenovia (it truly is a great race and a big local favorite for those of us who live in Central New York).
Unfortunately, lightning decided to strike and a thunderstorm rolled in mid-race. The Race Director made the hard (but very safe and appropriate) call to cancel the race mid-race due to these conditions. As such, both Paul and Sarah were unable to finish their race, but they did each finish the swim and one loop of the bike course!
While unable to finish the race, they did manage to link up and grab a photo together. Great job to both Paul and Sarah for executing the elements of the race they were able to partake in well, and excellent job handling the adversity of a mid-race cancellation!
