The Cazenovia Triathlon took place on Sunday, August 20, 2023, and Mary Beth (MB) Domachowske was there to race it! This was her A-Race that we had been building toward in her Custom-Built Training Plan.
The Cazenovia Triathlon is well-loved here in Central New York both for its challenging course and its supportive atmosphere. The race serves as the annual capstone event for the CNY Triathlon Club and welcomes athletes of all abilities to take on its hilly course.
MB’s Custom-Built Training Plan included a lot of workouts specifically designed to help her feel her strongest and best on this course. She raced the Olympic-Distance events, which meant that she swam 1500 meters, biked 40 kilometers, and ran 10 kilometers. Her swim was steady, she conquered the hills, and managed her efforts so well in the first two disciplines that she was able to pace her run “just right” (her words).
All of this meant that MB completed her A-Race with strength and a smile, and walked away from her multisport season feeling happy and energized about both the work she put in and the result she was able to achieve on race day. Congratulations, MB!
Paul Elm was spectating at the Cazenovia Triathlon, and he was there for a very special reason. Earlier this year, Paul, who is Onondaga, started the first-ever Native American triathlon club in the entirety of the United States of America when he started the Onondaga Nation Tri Club. The Cazenovia Triathlon was the first official triathlon that Onondaga Nation Tri Club members participated in as a club. Paul has been working hard to help other Onondaga learn about the sport of triathlon and to encourage them in their training and racing. The two club members who were racing had a strong back-and-forth battle throughout the entire race, finishing just one second apart from each other! Congratulations to Paul and the Onondaga Nation Tri Club!
